Nothing Is as Good or as Bad as It Seems
He chases highs, fears the fall.
The Truth Lives Somewhere in the Middle.
He thought peace would come once life stopped swinging.
Once he found balance.
Once things finally stayed good.
But every high came with a shadow.
And every low eventually broke into light.
He couldn’t see it then — he was addicted to extremes.
The rush of things going right, the panic when they didn’t.
That rollercoaster became his normal.
But peace, he learned, doesn’t live in the highs or the lows.
It lives in the space between them.
When Perspective Gets Distorted
We forget this truth most when we’re looking through the wrong lens.
Online, everyone’s winning.
Scroll long enough, and you start believing you’re behind.
Turn on the news, and it feels like the world’s ending every night at 6 p.m.
But equanimity reminds us — nothing is ever as good or as bad as it seems.
Years ago, I was living in a conflict zone.
My family would call in a panic after seeing headlines on CNN.
“Are you safe?” they’d ask, voices tight with fear.
And I’d be sitting on a balcony, listening to kids play soccer next to a goat.
Vendors calling out fresh bread. Birds in the trees. Life still happening.
The world they were watching didn’t match the one I was living.
Cable news had me in a war zone.
I was literally watching a neighborhood come alive.
That’s how perception works.
It amplifies the noise and edits out the quiet.
The economy, politics, social media, success — it’s all the same distortion.
Zoom out, and you see both things at once: chaos and calm, endings and beginnings, loss and renewal.
The Practice
When everything feels unbearable, remember: it’s temporary.
When everything feels unstoppable, remember: it’s temporary.
Both truths free you.
From worshiping your wins.
From collapsing under your losses.
From believing that now equals always.
The goal isn’t to flatten your emotions.
It’s to stop letting them steer your life.
When the highs feel too high and the lows feel too loud —
find your footing in the middle.
That’s where truth lives.
After all, nothing stays the same.
And that’s not the problem.
That’s the mercy.
